The first purchase was Chateau Le Crock in 1903 and purchased Chateau Leoville Poyferre and Chateau Moulin Riche later on.
Leoville-Poyferré has been at the forefront of wine making for a long line. The introduced the growing of smaller fruit. They clean their barrles with a sulphur solutions. In the old days these ideas were considered a little crazy. In the old days the winery had a size of over 200 hectares. Over the years the winery has reduced in size and finally purchased by the Cuvelier family in the 1920's. The Cuvelier family has a long history in the Bordeaux wine trade dating all the way back to the early 1800's.

A simple red wine from which I expected more considering the current price point. The tannins need a lot more time Red tree fruit, cherry and strawberries. Moderate finish all togehter not yet that exciting considering the reputation of the vintage.

The second wine of Leoville-Poyferré. Sweet, soft, polished, ripe berries, gentle tannins and a long, graceful, smoky, fruit filled finish, with enough freshness and fruit to allow the wine to leave an impression. This is a very nice wine, and it’s quite an accomplishment for the vintage.
From an assemblage of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 13.4% alcohol. The wine will be aged in 85% new French for 20 months. Licorice, black cherry, coffee bean and stone notes make up the aromatics. On the palate, the wine is soft, round, medium bodied, and fresh, showing signs of oak in the finish.
