Appelbeignets/Appelflappen or Dutch Apple Saucers

Ingredients

    • 250 gram flour (sieved)
    • 6 Goudrenetten. Peel, take the core out and slice in to medium thin slices max (4 mm)
    • 400 ml luke warm (25 -30 degrees full fat fresh milk (optional 200 ml beer and 200 ml milk)
    • 3 grams of salt
    • 4 grams dry yeast
    • 5 grams of cinnamon
    • Sprinkle of sugar to taste
    • 200 grams Cinnamon sugar (10 grams of cinnamon per 100 grams of sugar)
    • Optional a thin rolled out sheet or marzipan. Add a layer of this to the apple rings and follow the recipe.

    Preparation

    1Sieve the salt, cinnamon and the flour and yeast.

    2Add the milk, yeast mix well.  sugar and stir again.

    3Leave the mixture for 1 hour until it has doubled in size.  Dip the apple rings in the batter

    4Heat up the oil to 180 degrees and add the battered apple in the oil and fry until golden brown

    5Leave on kitchen paper and serve with a mix of cinnamon and sugar
